We imagine Joan Mitchell keeping her cigarettes in a bag like this.

The base composition is a hand-screened aerial photograph of Los Angeles. Elements of the twisting meander of road and waterways are hand embroidered in Japanese cotton thread. This abstraction creates almost ghosts of what has been, referencing the layers of lives cities hold.

Comprised of 14oz raw canvas, 100% Japanese cotton thread, screen print ink, and lined with dead stock midnight blue linen, this mixed media piece pulls on the history of art, the celebration of the craft of embroidery, and the ancient practice of adorning bags. 

Can be inscribed with customizable words, or only the hand embroidered map elements. Patches can be attached to these pieces as another base to collect on.
